While the traditional technology transfer activities of IP protection, development and commercialization will remain essential for those research discoveries with the potential to generate significant impacts, the UILO is taking a broader approach to disseminating the large proportion of research outputs not best served by this approach.
Specific knowledge mobilization channels are continually being developed and identified, but research outputs will tend to be distributed through one or more of the following broad routes:
- Traditional technology transfer or commercialization activities
- A non-proprietary approach to intellectual property that may make use of data and knowledge repositories or open source
- Translating knowledge aimed at improving decision-making processes, policies or operational practices.
- Simplified access to discoveries with lower value and higher volumes of transactions.
