Novel promoters, cell lines and mice with brain region and cell type specific expression – useful for research into brain disorders

Advantages

  • Human DNA sequences <4Kb
  • Cell lines and mice: single copy number, specific docking site – ensure consistent expression
  • Research group (Pleiades Research Project – www.pleiades.org) is large collaborative research project generating a pipeline of neuroscience research tools – significant resource to tap into
  • Potential for bundling of tools for cost savings

Technology Details

These neuroscience research tools are human MiniPromoters that drive region- and cell-specific gene expression in the mouse brain. Additional tools include expression constructs, mouse embryonic stem cell lines, and knock-in mice all of which carry brain-specific MiniPromoters. The tools are designed for easy modification into your expression system, or your favorite gene into our expression system. Importantly, the UBC researchers have the expertise to deliver bioinformatically-designed and in vivo tested MiniPromoter tools customized to recapitulate interesting gene expression patterns.

These tools enable region- and cell-specific gene-delivery therapies for such devastating diseases as Alzheimer, Parkinson, Huntington, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Multiple sclerosis, Spinocerebellar ataxia, depression, autism, and cancer. Alternately, the tools may be beneficial for researchers doing drug discovery or other R&D for these types of diseases.

MiniPromoter tools have been developed for dozens of different genes including the high-value targets below:
