This collaborative approach is typically focused in the social and health sciences and frequently involves researchers and decision makers interacting to generate, disseminate and implement new and existing research findings.
Through activities such as educational outreach, developing clinical practice guidelines, media campaigns, developing computer-based decision-support tools and in-service training, these research outputs can influence prevailing practices and policies.
The UILO will assist existing UBC groups and proactively identify opportunities to engage in such knowledge translation activities. Assistance may include: developing knowledge translation tools, strategies and work plans; identifying and connecting with relevant partners and resources; and developing sustainable funding models.
The UILO is also partnering with external organizations such as the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research to provide educational opportunities and training for researchers, administrators and communicators looking to expand their knowledge translation activities.
